Coaches and Therapists: Why are you so exhausted?

Coaches, therapists, and all our colleagues working in mental health, let’s face it: we’re all fucking exhausted.

Whether you’re struggling with client acquisition, secondary trauma, poor support systems at work or many other factors, they tend to have a few similar results. One of them is compassion fatigue.

It’s very normal for people who are coaches or therapists to feel like we give a lot. We are in the business of giving. But we forget that we cannot give without receiving as well.

In a world that’s so increasingly disconnected and a line of work that’s requires so much emotional sacrifice, compassion fatigue is extremely common. If you’re experiencing it, you are not alone. Many of us struggle with refilling the cup we pour from; resulting in frequent (sometimes chronic) burnout.

Everyone has different ways of trying to refill their cup. Sometimes it’s taking a break from work, taking a walk in nature, or hugging a really cute, four- legged creature and crying it out. In whatever ways you refill your cup, I encourage you to take the time to refill it this week.

But many of us feel like we need more than this to recover. It’s normal to just feel like you just need help. In life we often try to carry everything alone, and end up betraying ourselves in the process. But you are not alone, and you don’t deserve to feel alone.

My first priority as a coach is always the same: to lead with active listening and empathy. Your truth will always be honored in my coaching practice, even if it’s an uncomfortable one. I believe that we all need to receive empathy and compassion in equal capacities to the amount we give. And in a world that’s starving for empathy, it can be hard to find many places to receive it.

If you need a place to receive, my practice is the one for you. So whether you’re dealing with compassion fatigue, a toxic workplace, or an unhealthy work- life balance, you deserve support. If you’re ready, Call a Coach.

And remember to do something nice for yourself this week. Even if you don’t feel like you deserve it, I promise you do.
